Description

Skin darkening or hyperpigmentation refers to skin spots that are darker than the adjacent skin. Hyperpigmentation can also occur in a diffuse form throughout the skin.
Skin color change in hyperpigmentation occurs when the production of melanin (a pigment that is normally found in the skin) increases and due to its accumulation, the skin color becomes dark.
Dark skin can be seen in all races. Melasma is hyperpigmentation of sun-exposed skin surfaces in people. The dark parts of the skin are generally seen as relatively small spots, which are also called moles. Moles may appear as a result of sunlight and the accumulation of skin damage over many years.
